We are looking for a coating solution for rebar surface which can give temporary rust protection for 60 days.
Rebars are sold as cut to length straight bars with diameter ranging from 6 to 32 mm and length up to 12 meters. Cut to length rebar is produced through ‘bar in coil’ method. Typically, rebars from 6 mm to 12 mm (above we are saying 6 to 32mm) can be produced using this method. Initially, rebar is manufactured in the form of coil. The coil is then passed through a straightening mechanism to straighten the rebar. In this process some of the existing iron oxide scale also gets detached from the rebar surface, exposing fresh steel surface which has a high potential for corrosion. Typically, rebars are stored within the plant for 2 to 3 weeks. It is observed that customers receive rusted rebars and it is not desirable to them.
A solution is sought to prevent the rusting of rebars by a good quality coating which can give temporary protection to rebars (up to 60 days). It is preferable to apply the coating in-line so that there is no additional process of dip coating (of the entire bundle) is required.
