We are looking for non-invasive techniques of detecting buried fiber optic cables before carrying out any excavation activity.
Service providers face the challenge of detecting underground power & data communication cables, pipes, etc., before excavating (for the purposes of repair, construction, etc.). Currently, it is possible to detect underground power cables and metallic pipelines. The present process involves scanning an area and marking the underground utility so that excavation can be planned, and damage to utility and life can be prevented. In addition, ground-penetrating radar (GPR) is also deployed for the detection of non-metallic utilities, but detection of (armored/unarmored) Fiber Optic Cable (FOC) remains a challenge even with GPRs.
FOC cable damage results in major disruptions in all businesses. Solutions are invited for on-the-spot, non-invasive detection of Fiber Optic Cables.
