Reward money is paid in exchange of legally acquiring the solution, implementing it to solve the problem and meeting the success criteria. Milestones for paying the reward money would depend upon the complexity of challenge and maturity of the proposed solution, which would be discussed with the solver as soon as the proposed solution is selected by us.

Short Description:

Solutions are sought for developing a cost effective design of solar panel mounting structures and civil foundations in backwater areas

Challenge Details

The challenge requires designing of Solar Photovoltaic module mounting structure, structure foundation and civil buildings of solar power plants in backwater areas, submerged for four to six months in an year. Soil property in backwaters is mostly blackish grey coloured silty clay soil with medium plasticity.

The Government of India has proposed to use waste land for solar power plant. The proposed land is submerged for four to six months in a year and water levels go up to 1.5 meters in height. In addition, land is of clay nature with less soil bearing capacity.

The challenge is to develop a cost-effective design of solar panel mounting structure and civil foundations. It is expected that the optimized designs suitable for waste lands of sea coast areas with backwater will solve the land availability issues for solar power plants.

The solution should fulfil the following requirements:

  • Robust designs for foundations and module mounting structures
  • The Solar panels are of 1960x992x40 (LxWxT) with a weight of 22 Kgs. Several such panels are to be installed at the site.
  • The sea water and the air are corrosive and thus the design should withstand these conditions as well.
  • Should withstand the wind velocity of up to 50 m/s.
  • Panel should be at 500mm above the water level.
  • Cost effective solution to keep project capital expenditure (CAPEX) at par with the existing projects being executed in main land areas.
  • Installation should be easy and quicker.
  • Should be feasible to maintain the plant for 25 years.

The workable design solution is expected to be proposed by the solver fulfilling all the requirements outlined above. The designs suggested should be floating yet customised for the existing environment.
