Challenge details:

Wire manufacturing involves the cold drawing of wire rods. This process depends on the mechanical properties of the wire rods, especially their ductility. Reduction of Area (RoA) is measured to determine ductility which ideally should be around 30% RoA. The indicators of ductility during wire drawing are the percentage of elongation and the reduction of the cross-sectional area in the test sample. For High Carbon Wire rods (with diameters greater than 8mm and a carbon content greater than 0.70%) the Reduction of Area (RoA) immediately after hot rolling, is only 10% - 15%. To achieve higher RoA percentage, typical the coils are stored for extended durations of 10 to 21 days, depending on the wire rod size and customer applications. During this period, the reduction in area improves to greater than 30%, making the wire rods suitable for the drawing process. The current practice of storing the wire rod coils for 10 to 21 days leads to higher costs linked to inventory and logistics issues.

We are looking for a solution to enhance the ductility of high carbon wire rods within a span of 3 days as opposed to the current span of 10 to 21 days. Some constraints in the system are: (1) There is no additional space available to put temperature controlled chamber. (2) If the coil is to be wrapped to contain the temperature of coil, an automated system is to be suggested for wrapping the coil with minimum human intervention. All suggested solutions have to ensure work place safety.

Zero waste discharge solution for chemical sludge and ATFD salts from electronics manufacturing
Rewards proportional to your differentiated solution! More than one solution is expected to exist. Solution may be implemented without customization.

We are seeking practical, scalable, and economically viable solutions that can eliminate/reduce the sludge waste and ATFD salt volumes generated through the ETP and ZLD facilities and identify potential value creation through resource recovery pathways. The treatment process should be capable of seamless integration with the current operations.

Separation of Zn and Fe from GCP sludge cake
Rewards proportional to your differentiated solution! More than one solution is expected to exist. Solution may be implemented without customization.

We seek technologies capable of recovering zinc from blast furnace gas cleaning plant sludge so that it can be safely and effectively reintroduced into the pellet‑making process. Any solution must be compatible with the sludge's typical composition—more than 20% carbon, 6-10% iron, and measurable quantities of manganese, calcium, and other heavy metals—while reducing its hazardous characteristics. Technology providers are expected to deliver end‑to‑end solutions, including feed preparation, zinc recovery processes, and downstream offtake arrangements. Proposed approaches should ensure long‑term operational feasibility and support the company's broader circular‑materials strategy.

Non-Invasive Identification and Verification of Underground Cable Joints Prior to Excavation
Rewards proportional to your differentiated solution! More than one solution is expected to exist. Solution may be implemented without customization.

We are seeking a non‑invasive, above‑ground solution to identify underground cable joints and accurately distinguish the correct live cable among closely spaced cables, without excavation or offline signal injection, to support safe and efficient excavation planning.

Real Time Monitoring of Electrical Systems in Low- or No- Connectivity Remote Locations
Rewards proportional to your differentiated solution! More than one solution is expected to exist. Solution may be implemented without customization.

We are seeking a solution for reliable monitoring of electrical systems and field operations in low or no network environments, enabling secure offline operation, safety‑critical workflows, and seamless data synchronization once connectivity is available.

Eliminating LPG flame curtains in Annealing furnaces
Rewards proportional to your differentiated solution! More than one solution is expected to exist. Solution may be implemented without customization.

Gold jewellery annealing is performed in a furnace with a 75% hydrogen and 25% nitrogen atmosphere, where LPG flame curtains are used at the entry to prevent oxygen ingress during loading and unloading. There is a need to eliminate the use of flame curtains without compromising product quality, process stability, or safety. The solution must prevent oxidation, integrate with the existing setup, and enable safe, continuous operation within current spatial and retrofit constraints.
